2024 Surfing Championship in Hossegor

The Hossegor 2024 World Surfing Championship in France is one of the most prestigious events in the surfing world. Every year, the world's best surfers come to Hossegor to compete for the title of World Champion. This year, the competition promises to be fierce, with many talented surfers vying for the top spot.

Cancellation of Pro France 2023: A Disappointment for French Surfers

The iconic competition that is the heartbeat of French surfing will not be held this year. The World Surf League (WSL) and the Boardriders Group (Quiksilver/Roxy) have jointly announced the cancellation of the Pro France 2023.

Following Jérémy Florès' historic victory in 2019, the event had been exceptionally cancelled in 2020 due to the health situation. He subsequently left the Championship Tour to join the qualifying circuit.

Despite this difficult decision to accept, 2021 offered a successful Challenger Series, demonstrating that the Pro France could remain a major event, even without the presence of certain surfing stars.

A new Challenger Series was due to take place in October on the waves of Hossegor. However, economic reasons led to its cancellation. "We were unable to secure the financial support necessary to ensure the viability of the event," said Erik Logan, WSL Director.

The professional surfing league and the Boardriders group are currently working to enable the event to return as early as 2024, but for this year, the disappointment is great.

As a result, French pro surfers are deprived of their only opportunity to compete at home and accumulate vital points towards qualification for the Championship Tour (CT). As a result, the WSL has announced that only the 4 best results of the year (instead of 5) will be taken into account in the rankings.

In addition to the surfers, we're also thinking of the many fans who gather on the beaches every year. Those who had already circled the date of the Pro France on their calendars are now disappointed.

Imagine these surfing enthusiasts, from all over the world, eagerly awaiting the opportunity to see their idols ride the spectacular waves of Hossegor. Unfortunately, this year their hopes are dashed and they'll have to wait until next year to enjoy this unique experience once again.

A look back at previous years

The competition: Who is competing? When is it?

Hossegor will host a surfing championship on September 15. The competition will be open to all surfers wishing to take part. The event will take place at the local surf club, and there will be prizes for the winners. This is a great opportunity for surfers of all levels to come and compete in one of the most beautiful spots in the world. The competition will be organized by the local surfers' association. There will be plenty of press coverage and media attention, as well as many professional photographers on hand to capture all the action. Waves: What kind of waves can you expect?

The waves in Hossegor are generally good for surfing. But what kind of waves can you expect during the championship?

We can expect to see some big waves during the competition. Surfers will be coming from all over the world, and they'll be bringing their best tricks and their best boards.

We can also expect to see some spectacular wipeouts. With so many surfers in one place, there are bound to be some spills. But that's all part of the fun!

Weather: What's the weather forecast for the competition days?

The weather forecast for the competition days looks good, with sunny skies and waves in the 1 to 2 metre range. Conditions should be ideal for surfing, so we can expect to see some fine performances from the athletes.

The last championship: A brief summary of the 2023 championship in Hossegor.

The surfing championship in Hossegor was the last event of the year. It was a great event with great waves and good weather. The event was won by John John Florence, who hails from Hawaii. He's the current world champion and he defended his title in this event. This is the second time he has won this event, and he is the first surfer to win two events in a row.

Why Hossegor is the ideal location for a surfing championship.

Hossegor is a world-renowned surfing destination and this year will be hosting a surfing championship. The event will take place over three days and will feature some of the best surfers from around the world. It promises to be an exciting event for spectators and participants alike.
