Despite this difficult decision to accept, 2021 offered a successful Challenger Series, demonstrating that the Pro France could remain a major event, even without the presence of certain surfing stars.
A new Challenger Series was due to take place in October on the waves of Hossegor. However, economic reasons led to its cancellation. "We were unable to secure the financial support necessary to ensure the viability of the event," said Erik Logan, WSL Director.
The professional surfing league and the Boardriders group are currently working to enable the event to return as early as 2024, but for this year, the disappointment is great.
